The Best Mushroom Coffees of 2026, Tested and Ranked

Evidence Based

2 Week Trials

You might be thinking—does switching to mushroom coffee actually make much of a difference?

I’ll be honest: I’m skeptical of any product that promises to completely transform your morning routine. But mushroom coffee is an interesting category because the right formula can combine something most of us already drink every day with functional mushroom extracts and other useful ingredients.

The problem is that there are now dozens of brands making very similar claims. Some advertise huge mushroom milligram numbers. Others focus on how many mushroom species they include. And once you start comparing the labels, it becomes clear that those numbers don’t always tell you how concentrated the extracts actually are.

So I tested 14 of the most talked-about mushroom coffee brands and compared their formulas, ingredient transparency, mushroom potency, taste and overall daily drinkability. From those 14, I narrowed the detailed comparison down to the five that stood out most.

The Mushroom Coffees I Picked (and How I Tested Them):

Rated 3.5 / 5

10. Atlas+

Rated 3.4 / 5

Rated 3.2 / 5

13. Habit One

14. Java Mushroom

Rated 3.0 / 5

The Ground Rules

Mushroom quality over marketing numbers – I didn’t assume a larger total mushroom milligram number automatically meant a more potent product.

Transparency matters – I gave more weight to brands that clearly explain their mushrooms, extracts and quality standards.

Coffee still matters – If a product is supposed to replace your morning coffee, it needs to be something you actually want to drink every day.

The Testing Process

I prepared each product according to its directions and compared taste, aroma, texture and ease of preparation.

I reviewed the ingredient labels and the information each brand provided about mushroom species, extracts, sourcing and potency.

I compared how clearly each brand explained mushroom quality rather than relying only on front-of-package milligram claims.

I considered the complete daily experience: coffee quality, caffeine approach, supporting ingredients, testing, value and whether I would realistically keep drinking it

My Non-Negotiables in Mushroom Coffee

Clearly identified functional mushrooms

Meaningful extract and potency transparency

Beta-glucan information when disclosed

Quality-control or third-party testing signals

Transparent labeling

Actually enjoyable taste

1. MORLI PERFORM+ — My Top Pick

What I love:

Lion’s Mane, Cordyceps and Reishi extracts standardized to 70%+ beta-glucans

USA-grown mushrooms

Third-party tested

Organic Arabica coffee

Real coffee-forward taste

Includes L-Theanine, hydrolyzed collagen and moringa

Original and Dark Roast options

What could be better:

Primarily available online

Not intended as a completely caffeine-free coffee alternative

Why MORLI is My Top Pick

What separated MORLI for me was how clearly it approaches mushroom potency. Many brands lead with a total mushroom milligram number, but that number alone doesn’t tell you how concentrated the extracts are.

MORLI standardizes its Lion’s Mane, Cordyceps and Reishi extracts to 70%+ beta-glucans. That gives me a much clearer benchmark for what I’m actually comparing than a large blended milligram number by itself.

It also still tastes and feels like coffee. MORLI uses organic Arabica coffee, so you don’t have to trade the morning coffee ritual for something that tastes overwhelmingly earthy or mushroom-heavy.

The supporting formula is focused too, with L-Theanine, hydrolyzed collagen and moringa. Combined with USA-grown mushrooms and third-party testing, it was the strongest overall balance of potency transparency, coffee quality and everyday drinkability in my comparison.

2. Four Sigmatic — The Established Category Leader

Runner up

2. Four Sigmatic

Rated 4.5 / 5

What I love:

Four Sigmatic has been one of the best-known names in mushroom coffee for years. It helped make functional mushrooms more approachable by putting them into a familiar coffee format.

What could be better:

I like the established brand, simple coffee experience and category credibility. Where MORLI pulled ahead for me was the clearer emphasis on standardized beta-glucan potency across its core mushroom extracts.

3. MUD/WTR — The Coffee Alternative

3. MUD/WTR

Rated 4.2 / 5

What I love:

MUD/WTR is one of the most distinctive products I tested. Instead of trying to taste exactly like coffee, it leans into a spiced functional drink with mushrooms and a very different morning experience.

What could be better:

That can be a positive if you actively want to move away from regular coffee. But for someone who genuinely likes coffee, it is a bigger adjustment. I ranked it in the top five because it is differentiated and well established, but it wasn’t my favorite true coffee replacement.

4. Everyday Dose — The Smooth Functional Option

4. Everyday Dose

Rated 4.1 / 5

What I love:

Everyday Dose has built a polished functional coffee experience around a smoother, lighter morning drink. It is easy to see why the brand has developed such a following.

What could be better:

I liked the overall experience, but mushroom potency transparency carried a lot of weight in my scoring. MORLI’s disclosed 70%+ beta-glucan standard gave me a clearer benchmark for its core mushroom extracts.

5. RYZE — The Viral Category Giant

5. RYZE

Rated 3.9 / 5

What I love:

RYZE is probably one of the first brands many people encounter when they start researching mushroom coffee. Its broad mushroom blend and huge online presence have helped make the category mainstream.

What could be better:

It is a solid entry point, but I don’t think a large total mushroom blend number tells the whole story. I wanted clearer information about extract concentration and active compounds, and the taste also leaned more earthy than the coffee-forward options I preferred

Other Competitors (Brief Notes)

LAIRD (3.8/5) – A recognizable functional-coffee option with a broad wellness focus, but mushroom potency was less central to the overall proposition.

Cuppa (3.7/5) – A modern wellness-focused option with an appealing formula, but it fell just outside the final five.

RASA (3.6/5) – Adaptogen-heavy and designed more as a coffee alternative, making it a different proposition from a traditional mushroom coffee.

Alcami (3.5/5) – A smaller entrant in the category that didn’t stand out as strongly on transparency and differentiation.

Atlas+ (3.4/5) – A functional daily option, but it lacked the same level of differentiation as the higher-ranked products.

Lucid (3.3/5) – A modern functional coffee concept, but it didn’t score highly enough across my overall criteria to make the final cut.

Neubrain (3.2/5) – Performance-oriented positioning, but the complete mushroom-coffee proposition was less convincing than the leaders.

Habit One (3.0/5) – An approachable daily ritual concept, but it finished behind the other brands on the complete set of criteria.

Java Mushroom (3.0/5) – A straightforward mushroom coffee option, but it didn’t differentiate itself enough across the criteria to rank higher.

Why I Chose MORLI

After testing 14 mushroom coffee brands, MORLI was the one that checked the most boxes for me.

First, the 70%+ beta-glucan standard on its Lion’s Mane, Cordyceps and Reishi extracts gives a clearer measure of extract potency than simply advertising a large mushroom milligram number. Second, it uses organic Arabica coffee and actually keeps the experience close to drinking regular coffee. And third, the formula adds L-Theanine, collagen and moringa without becoming an enormous kitchen-sink blend.

Four Sigmatic remains an excellent established option. MUD/WTR is compelling if you want a true coffee alternative. Everyday Dose offers a smooth functional ritual, and RYZE remains one of the category’s most recognizable brands. But based on the complete package, MORLI finished #1 for me.
