The Best Mushroom Coffees of 2026, Tested and Ranked

Evidence Based

2 Week Trials

Last Updated

You might be thinking — is mushroom coffee actually worth switching to?

I’ll be honest: I was skeptical at first. But the more I looked into functional mushrooms and the research behind them, the more interested I became in what a well-formulated mushroom coffee could offer.

The problem? Not all mushroom coffees are created equal.

There are now dozens of brands to choose from, all using different mushrooms, extracts, dosages and formulations. Some advertise huge milligram numbers.

Others squeeze six or more mushrooms into a single blend. As I started reading the labels, I quickly realized how difficult it was to tell which products were genuinely high quality — and which simply had good marketing.

So, I decided to do the homework myself.

I tested 14 of the most popular mushroom coffees, comparing their taste, formula quality, mushroom potency, ingredients and overall experience to find out which ones were actually worth making part of your morning routine.

And the differences were much bigger than I expected.

Some tasted great but had fairly basic formulas. Others looked impressive on paper but weren’t something I’d want to drink every morning.

The brands that ranked highest were the ones that delivered the best overall combination of taste, quality, potency and everyday drinkability.

The Ground Rules

To keep the comparison as fair as possible, I followed the same basic criteria for every mushroom coffee I tested:

Potency over big numbers — I didn’t automatically give a higher score to products advertising thousands of milligrams of mushrooms. I wanted to understand the quality and concentration behind those numbers.

Transparency matters — I gave more weight to brands that clearly disclosed their mushroom sources, extracts, potency and quality standards.

It still has to taste good — This is something you’re potentially drinking every morning. No matter how impressive the label looks, I wouldn’t recommend something I wouldn’t want to drink myself.

The Testing Process

I first prepared and evaluated all 14 mushroom coffees using the same criteria. From there, I narrowed them down to five finalists and put each of those through a separate two-week trial as part of my normal morning routine.

I prepared and tasted all 14 products, comparing aroma, texture, mixability and how closely each one resembled a satisfying morning coffee.

I put the five finalists through separate two-week trials, drinking each consistently as part of my normal morning routine.

I tracked my experience throughout each trial, including energy, focus, afternoon energy levels and whether I wanted another coffee later.

I reviewed the complete formula behind each product, including mushroom extracts, beta-glucan information, caffeine, supporting ingredients, sourcing, testing and overall quality.

Actually enjoyable taste - Taste matters more than you think. If you don’t enjoy your morning coffee, you won’t stick with it — no matter how good the formula is

Why MORLI is My Top Pick

After testing all 14 products side by side, MORLI stood out as the most complete mushroom coffee I tested. Here’s why it earned my top spot.
(1) 70%+ Beta-Glucan Standardized Extracts: One thing I learned while testing these products is that a big mushroom milligram number doesn’t necessarily tell you how potent the extract is.

Beta-glucans are naturally occurring compounds found in functional mushrooms and one of the key markers used to assess mushroom extract quality and concentration.

MORLI stood out because its Lion’s Mane, Reishi and Cordyceps extracts are standardized to 70%+ beta-glucans, giving me a much clearer picture of what I was actually getting in each serving.

(2) A Complete Morning Coffee: What I liked about MORLI is that it doesn’t feel like a supplement pretending to be coffee. 100% Arabica Coffee gives it a real coffee taste, while L-Theanine, hydrolyzed collagen and moringa round out the formula. With USA-grown mushrooms, made in the USA and third-party testing, it was the most well-rounded option I tested.

What I Love

What surprised me most about MORLI was that it actually tasted like real coffee. When I brewed it, it even had that rich crema you’d expect from a high quality coffee.

The biggest thing I noticed was how much more energized I felt throughout the day. My mornings felt smoother, I stayed focused at work, and I wasn’t reaching for another coffee a few hours later or feeling the same afternoon slump I had become used to.

More importantly, it didn’t feel like another supplement I had to force into my routine. It simply replaced my regular coffee, while giving me Lion’s Mane, Reishi, Cordyceps, L-Theanine, collagen and moringa in the same cup.

After trying 14 different mushroom coffees, MORLI was one of the few I could genuinely see myself drinking every morning.

What Could Be Better

The biggest downside for me is availability. MORLI is primarily sold online, so it’s not something you can easily pick up at your local grocery store if you run out. MORLI currently comes in two roasts — Original and Dark. Both cover the basics well, but I’d like to see them introduce a few more flavor or roast options in the future.

Ingredient Breakdown

As a Registered Dietitian, I always spend time looking at what’s actually inside a product — and MORLI has one of the more well-rounded formulas I tested.

  • Lion’s Mane: A functional mushroom for brain health, memory and cognitive function, helping support mental sharpness as you age.
  • Cordyceps: Supports energy, stamina and physical performance, making it especially useful for staying active as you get older.
  • Reishi: Supports immune health, stress management and overall wellness, making it a strong addition for healthy aging.
  • L-Theanine: Works alongside caffeine to support calm, sustained focus without making your morning coffee feel overly stimulating.
  • Hydrolyzed Collagen: Provides collagen peptides to support joints, connective tissue and skin, all of which become increasingly important with age.
  • Moringa: A nutrient-dense plant rich in antioxidants and micronutrients that supports metabolic health and healthy weight management as part of a balanced lifestyle.
  • 100% Arabica Coffee: Naturally rich in antioxidants and caffeine to support energy, alertness, focus and physical performance, while delivering the real coffee taste and ritual you’re used to.
One thing that impressed me: despite its nutrient density, each serving is remarkably efficient:
  • Low-calorie
  • No added sugar
  • No artificial sweeteners
  • No fillers or synthetic additives
What I also like is how focused the formula is — real Arabica coffee, high-potency mushroom extracts and a handful of supporting ingredients, without trying to cram dozens of different ingredients into every serving.

2. Four Sigmatic — The Established Category Leader

2. Four Sigmatic

Rated 4.5 / 5

What I love:

Four Sigmatic has been one of the best-known names in mushroom coffee for years. It helped make functional mushrooms more approachable by putting them into a familiar coffee format.

What could be better:

I like the established brand, simple coffee experience and category credibility. Where MORLI pulled ahead for me was the clearer emphasis on standardized beta-glucan potency across its core mushroom extracts.

3. MUD/WTR — The Coffee Alternative

3. MUD/WTR

Rated 4.2 / 5

SHOP NOW

What I love:

MUD/WTR is one of the most distinctive products I tested. Instead of trying to taste exactly like coffee, it leans into a spiced functional drink with mushrooms and a very different morning experience.

What could be better:

That can be a positive if you actively want to move away from regular coffee. But for someone who genuinely likes coffee, it is a bigger adjustment. I ranked it in the top five because it is differentiated and well established, but it wasn’t my favorite true coffee replacement.

4. Everyday Dose — The Smooth Functional Option

4. Everyday Dose

Rated 4.1 / 5

What I love:

Everyday Dose has built a polished functional coffee experience around a smoother, lighter morning drink. It is easy to see why the brand has developed such a following.

What could be better:

I liked the overall experience, but mushroom potency transparency carried a lot of weight in my scoring. MORLI’s disclosed 70%+ beta-glucan standard gave me a clearer benchmark for its core mushroom extracts.

5. RYZE — The Viral Category Giant

5. RYZE

Rated 3.9 / 5

SHOP NOW

What I love:

RYZE is probably one of the first brands many people encounter when they start researching mushroom coffee. Its broad mushroom blend and huge online presence have helped make the category mainstream.

What could be better:

It is a solid entry point, but I don’t think a large total mushroom blend number tells the whole story. I wanted clearer information about extract concentration and active compounds, and the taste also leaned more earthy than the coffee-forward options I preferred

Other Competitors (Brief Notes)

LAIRD (3.8/5) – A recognizable functional-coffee option with a broad wellness focus, but mushroom potency was less central to the overall proposition.

Cuppa (3.7/5) – A modern wellness-focused option with an appealing formula, but it fell just outside the final five.

Neubrain (3.6/5) – Adaptogen-heavy and more impressive marketing than anything. A good option but much better out there.

Alcami (3.5/5) – A smaller entrant in the category that didn’t stand out as strongly on transparency and differentiation.

Atlas+ (3.4/5) – A functional daily option, but it lacked the same level of differentiation as the higher-ranked products.

Lucid (3.3/5) – A modern functional coffee concept, but it didn’t score highly enough across my overall criteria to make the final cut.

Rasa (3.2/5) – Performance-oriented positioning, but the complete mushroom-coffee proposition was less convincing than the leaders.

Habit One (3.0/5) – An approachable daily ritual concept, but it finished behind the other brands on the complete set of criteria.

Java Mushroom (3.0/5) – A straightforward mushroom coffee option, but it didn’t differentiate itself enough across the criteria to rank higher.

Why I Chose MORLI

After testing 14 mushroom coffees, MORLI was the one that checked all my boxes. It combined high-quality functional mushrooms with useful supporting ingredients, while still tasting like something I’d genuinely want to drink every morning.

What mattered most to me was the overall experience. I enjoyed the taste, I liked how it fit into my morning routine, and I felt good drinking it consistently. Instead of feeling like another supplement I had to remember to take, it simply replaced something I was already doing every day — drinking coffee.

I also liked knowing I was getting Lion’s Mane, Reishi and Cordyceps alongside L-Theanine, collagen and moringa in the same cup. For me, that makes it an easy daily ritual for supporting energy, focus and overall health as I get older.

As a Registered Dietitian, I’m careful about the products I personally use and recommend to others. MORLI is one I’d be comfortable keeping in my own routine and recommending to people looking to support their health and longevity.

Of course, mushroom coffee doesn’t replace good nutrition, exercise or the fundamentals of a healthy lifestyle. But if you already drink coffee every morning, I think MORLI is a simple way to get more out of a habit you already have.
